Ned Berke is an independent local media consultant in Brooklyln.
He is a former board member of LION Publishers and formerly served as editor and publisher of Brooklyn hyperlocal websites Sheepshead Bites and Bensonhurst Bean, graduated from Rutgers University in 2006. He launched Sheepshead Bites in 2008 and followed it with the second site in 2011, covering the neighboring community of Bensonhurst. Prior to publishing these sites, Berke wrote dispatches for a variety of online and print publications about South America while living in Lima, Peru, and wrote about American politics for a Peruvian culture and music magazine. He worked in trade publishing before that, writing about international sales of television content, and was among the first to write about the emergence of new online video platforms including Netflix and Hulu.
His work at Sheepshead Bites and Bensonhurst Bean has earned him recognition as Best Local Blogger in Brooklyn and Manhattan by The L Magazine in 2010 and, in 2011, NYC’s Most Valuable Blogger for Local Affairs in 2011. In 2012, City & State included him their “40 Under 40” list of New York City's most up-and-coming professionals in media and politics.
