Title: Sponsorship Sales (temporary, contract) THIS POSITION IS CLOSED

Location: Remote

Salary: $30,000 base plus commissions.

NOTE: This new position is anticipated to evolve into a single full-time salaried fundraising position in 2021. Incumbent(s) at that time will have priority consideration for that position, though contractor/ consultant proposals will be considered at this time. 


LION Publishers is a journalism association supporting independent local online news publishers. Our mission is to help local news entrepreneurs build and grow financially sustainable small businesses. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization administered in the state of Pennsylvania, with a distributed staff. 

We are seeking to contract with a part-time sales professional to research, strategize, and implement sales tactics that help us to meet our 2020 budgetary goals. LION’s main revenue sources include grants, sponsorship sales, and annual membership dues. This position would be responsible for managing and growing upon an anticipated sponsorship sales portfolio of $175,000.

LION is a distributed virtual office, with daily and weekly online calls and occasional in-person meetings. Candidates should be equipped and prepared for online, remote work. They will be familiar with standard online administrative tools and adept enough to learn the software that LION staff use for this work.


The incumbent will maintain and solicit LION’s portfolio of existing and potential sponsors to support LION’s 2020 Summit and other programs, as they develop. The Summit’s 2020 sponsorship target is $175,000, with potential for more. 

This role will work with the leadership team to devise and implement a thoughtful suite of corporate support opportunities for existing and new accounts, following up on all leads brought by the team. This person will close sales opportunities and seek new ones, maintaining the files according to company practices.

Success in this role will be determined by:

  • Amount raised from existing accounts and prospects
  • Amount raised from new accounts
  • Ease and professionalism of internal and external relationships
  • Quality of contracts issued and their fulfillments


Use of company’s CRM, Google Drive, and other organizational and communications tools and systems are required. Prompt and accurate record keeping is key to the team’s work. Attendance and notes regarding internal and external meetings will be required on a mutually determined schedule.
