About LION Publishers
Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers is a professional journalism association for independent news publishers.
How we reach independent news publishers
While most of our 400+ members across the U.S. and Canada run local news businesses, we also have members who serve larger regions and specific identity-based communities across geographies. We also reach industry stakeholders who are interested in supporting local journalism and independent news.
- Our weekly email newsletter sent on Thursdays reaches more than 4,300 subscribers and has an average open rate of about 42 percent.
- Our Twitter account has more than 5,000 followers.
- Our LinkedIn page has more than 500 followers.
- Our News Entrepreneur Community Slack channel has more than 900 members with an average of more than 250 active weekly.
- We’re co-hosting a Sustainability Summit with the News Revenue Hub and Texas Tribune’s RevLab in Austin in the late fall. We’ll also host our LION Awards at the Summit. Our most recent Summit and Awards Show in 2019 attracted 226 attendees, and our 2021 LION Awards attracted more than 240 entries, which nearly tripled from the previous year.
Our sponsorship packages
We are offering two types of sponsorship packages: LION Digital Sponsorships and LION Awards Sponsorships. Our digital sponsorships offer an opportunity to reach our members anytime of the year through our newsletter, sponsored content, social media reach and Slack community. This year's LION Awards offer an opportunity to reach our members during our in-person Independent News Sustainability Summit in October 2022. Our sponsorships policy
LION offers sponsorships to software and service providers, educational institutions and other businesses that aim to serve independent news publishers like LION's members. We receive inquiries and do outreach to potential sponsors and offer a standard package that sponsors pay us money for. While LION sponsorships are not endorsements, we do reserve the right to turn down a sponsor that is not in line with our organizational values.
